Autumn at the Ruffié gîtes

autumn is here! For several nights now, the stag's bellow has been piercing the night sky...a bewitching and slightly mournful cry...They're close by, there are several of them...Who will get the herd of hinds?

The call of the owl accompanies them in the early morning...and sometimes that of a small unidentified animal"... nature is truly alive around our estate and this is strangely soothing.

We also had a visit from wild boar (which we could have done without!), no doubt on the run from the hunters. They generously ploughed our beautiful park!

Yesterday morning, I was surprised to see a pair of roe deer visiting our Zen garden. I watched them for a long moment, totally motionless... Then they ran off, leaping across the neighbouring meadow.

We're gradually adopting an eco-responsible approach: for a long time now, we've been practising rigorous selective sorting, and we have compost for all the inhabitants of our house: it helps us to fertilize the soil for our flower beds and vegetable garden. After all, we haven't used fertilizers or pesticides for a long time now (the nettles love it!). The cows and horses in the neighboring meadow provide us with valuable additional natural fertilizer.

This year we're trying our hand at permaculture, on a small scale for now.

We've prepared a first mound and will plant in the spring. We will go to "kokopelli" to look for seeds (in Ariège) The mound is mulched during the cold season (see the two photos).

Here's Ruffié!, always appreciated by our summer visitors... rentals are open for your next summer vacation, and some reservations have already been made.
