Since our gîte de Ruffié in Foix, don't miss a visit to the superb medieval bastide town of MirepoixYou should then take advantage of this outing to go a little further, towards La Bastide de Bousignac, to the village of Lagarde: there you will discover what used to be " the little Versailles of Ariege The remains of a superb château belonging to the Lévis Mirepoix family, transformed into a Renaissance château with large formal gardens, hall of mirrors and mullioned windows. Sadly, it was looted during the French Revolution, then used as a quarry for public buildings in Carcassonne and Limoux.
Today, its new owner, with the help of an association, is attempting to restore this superb vestige. An unusual visit not to be missed.
